MORE CLASSIC ECW: I get older tapes so often that I can't give them all the usual nit-picking treatment. So: all of the following are £7 each, picture quality for the first three is passable, while the rest are very good or even excellent. Further details available on request. Summer Sizzler '93 (Funk vs Gilbert chain match - 19/6/93)… When Worlds Collide '94 (Sabu & Eaton vs Funk & Anderson - 14/5/94)… Hostile City Showdown '94 (Funks vs Public Enemy, Sabu vs Cactus - 24/6/94)… Enter the Sandman (Malenko vs Guerrero, Sandman vs Cactus - 13/5/95)… Gangsta's Paradise (Rey vs Psicosis, cage main event - 16/9/95)… Hardcore Heaven '95 (1/7/95)… House Party '96 (RVD debuts, Sabu vs Stevie, Gangstas vs Public Enemy - 5/1/96)… Big Apple Blizzard Blast '96 (Eliminators vs Cactus & Mikey, Rey vs Juvi, Sandman & Scorpio vs Gangstas - 3/2/96)… Cyberslam '96 (Scorpio vs Sabu, Cactus vs Douglas, Sandman vs Raven - 17/2/96)… Just Another Night (Sabu vs Scorpio, Bigelow vs Cactus - 23/2/96)… Massacre on Queen's Boulevard '96 (Taz vs Jericho, Head Hunters vs Gangstas - 13/4/96)… Hostile City Showdown '96 (Sabu vs RVD - 20/4/96)… Hardcore Heaven '96 (Jericho vs Pitbull, Sabu vs RVD - 26/6/96)… November to Remember '96 (Gangstas vs Eliminators vs Sabu & RVD, Sandman vs Raven - 16/11/96)… Cyberslam '97 (Eliminators vs Sabu & RVD tables & ladders match, Candido vs Sabu - 22/2/97)… November to Remember '97 (Dreamer vs RVD, Sabu vs Sandman tables & ladders disaster! - 30/11/97)
Est. 1992
Two classic ECW commercial tapes, now available together on this DVD conversion. Every match is a rarity of one sort or another, including the only meeting between Sabu and Chris Jericho (captured on fancam - have your motion sickness pills to hand), the 'High Incident' scaffold match (in which Tommy Dreamer took his infamous fall through a lifetime supply of tables), and Kimona's impromptu 'one-woman show' at the ECW Arena. Volume I: Chris Benoit vs Sabu… Shane Douglas & Cactus Jack vs Terry Funk & The Sandman… Public Enemy vs The Gangstas… The Steiners vs Vampire Warrior & Dudley Dudley… The Sandman vs Cactus Jack (barbed wire match)… Beulah vs Francine. Volume II: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Terry Gordy… Public Enemy vs The Gangstas… Chris Jericho vs Sabu… Brian Lee vs Tommy Dreamer (High Incident)… Kimona Wanalaya 'entertains' the fans.
This tape compiles every single match of ECW's celebrated Malenko/Guerrero feud. From their first encounter on US soil, to their emotional farewell - via six-man tags and a special three-day tournament. I try not to use the word 'classic' where it could cause disappointment, but I have no such reservations here. This is wrestling at its finest. Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (Hostile City Showdown)… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (Enter Sandman)… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero x3 (every match from a special three-day tournament)… Dean Malenko & Too Cold Scorpio vs Eddie Guerrero & Taz… Dean Malenko & Too Cold Scorpio vs Eddie Guerrero & Taz (Taz suffers broken neck)… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (ECW TV Title Change from Florida)… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (ECW TV Title Change from New York)… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (fancam)… Dean Malenko, Cactus Jack & Too Cold Scorpio vs The Steiners & Eddie Guerrero… Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (best of three falls match)
Heated matches, classic angles and that pro-wrestling rarity - a completely logical storyline - made the feud between these 'childhood friends' one of the best things ECW ever did. This tape compiles all of its highlights. Raven & Stevie Richards join up with Johnny Hotbody & Tony Stetson… Tommy Dreamer vs Tony Stetson, Johnny Hotbody, Stevie Richards & Raven (gauntlet match)… Beulah McGullicutty enters the fray… Raven vs Tommy Dreamer… Raven vs Tommy Dreamer… Nightclub altercation… Raven vs Tommy Dreamer (death match - Luna Vachon debuts)… Raven & The Sandman vs Tommy Dreamer & Cactus Jack… Beulah McGullicutty vs Luna Vachon… Raven & Stevie Richards vs Tommy Dreamer & Luna Vachon… Mass brawl with Raven, Dreamer, Richards, Pitbulls, Luna and Dudleys… Luna Vachon vs Stevie Richards (cage match - Dreamer crucifies Raven)… Dreamer attacks Raven… Tommy Dreamer vs Raven (no countout, no disqualification match)
The very last ECW card. After the main event, realising that nine years of ECW was at an end, the whole locker room emptied into the ring for a very emotional farewell. Prodigy vs Nova… Hot Commodity vs Christian York & Joey Matthews… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy… The FBI vs Danny Doring & Tommy Dreamer… CW Anderson vs Jack Victory (falls count anywhere match)… Oz vs Michael Shane… Spike Dudley vs Rhino (ECW World Title Match)… Justin Credible vs The Sandman… Justin Credible vs The Sandman (rematch)
ECW's penultimate card. Oz vs Michael Shane… Prodigy vs John Phoenix… The FBI vs Christian York & Joey Matthews… CW Anderson vs Jack Victory (falls count anywhere match)… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy… Hot Commodity vs Danny Doring & Nova… Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer… Rhino vs The Sandman (ECW World Title Match)
This was ECW's last pay-per-view, although few believed it at the time - rumours of the group's imminent demise had become part of the wallpaper as far back as 1999. Rob Van Dam returned for one last match with Jerry Lynn, while Rhino unified the ECW World and TV titles for the first (and last) time. Jerry Lynn & Cyrus vs Christian York & Joey Matthews… Danny Doring & Roadkill vs Hot Commodity (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Chris Hamrick vs Nova… CW Anderson vs Tommy Dreamer ('I Quit' match)… The FBI vs Super Crazy & Kid Kash vs Yoshihiro Tajiri & Mikey Whipwreck… Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger vs Balls Mahoney & Chilly Willy… The Sandman vs Steve Corino vs Justin Credible (ECW World Title - Tables, Ladders, Chairs & Canes Match)… The Sandman vs Rhino (ECW World Title Match)… Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn
Joey Matthews & Christian York vs Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger… Balls Mahoney vs EZ Money… Julio Dinero vs Nova… Danny Doring & Roadkill vs The FBI (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… CW Anderson vs Tommy Dreamer… Rhino vs Spike Dudley (ECW TV Title Match)… Kid Kash & Super Crazy vs Mikey Whipwreck & Yoshihiro Tajiri… Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible vs Steve Corino (ECW World Title Three-Way Dance)
Scott Hall vs Sal E. Graziano… Michael Shane vs Mike Bell… Mikey Whipwreck, Super Crazy & Yoshihiro Tajiri vs EZ Money, Julio Dinero & Chris Hamrick…. Danny Doring & Roadkill vs Bilvis Wesley & Prodigy… Nova vs Little Guido… Jerry Lynn vs Steve Corino… The Sandman vs Steve Corino… Tommy Dreamer, Christian Matthews & Joey York vs CW Anderson, Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger (falls count anywhere match)… Rhino vs Kid Kash… Tony De Vito vs Chilly Willy… Scott Hall vs Justin Credible
Balls Mahoney vs Mike Bell… Nova vs Bilvis Wesley… The Baldies vs Christian York & Joey Matthews… New Jack vs The Blue Boy… Kid Kash vs Simon Diamond… Super Crazy & Yoshihiro Tajiri vs The FBI… The Sandman, Roadkill & Danny Doring vs EZ Money, Julio Dinero & Chris Hamrick… Scott Hall & Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible & Rhino
Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamond vs Joey Matthews & Christian York… Kid Kash vs CW Anderson… Nova vs Chris Chetti (loser leaves ECW)… The FBI vs Super Crazy & Yoshihiro Tajiri (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Balls Mahoney & Chilly Willy vs The Baldies (flaming tables match)… Rhino vs New Jack (ECW TV Title Match)… Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible… The Sandman vs Steve Corino (ECW World Title Double Jeopardy Match)
Described by no less of an authority than the Wrestling Observer as 'the best set of weekend shows in ECW history'. EZ Money & Julio Dinero vs Joey Matthews & Christian York… Danny Doring & Roadkill vs The Baldies… Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamond vs Nova & Chris Chetti… Mikey Whipwreck & Yoshihiro Tajiri vs The FBI… Steve Corino hobnobs with Billy Corgan… Rhino & Justin Credible vs The Sandman & Chilly Willy… Rob Van Dam & Kid Kash vs Jerry Lynn & Tommy Dreamer… Yoshihiro Tajiri & Mikey Whipwreck vs EZ Money & Julio Dinero… Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamond vs Danny Doring & Roadkill… Rhino & Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn… Balls Mahoney vs Bilvis Wesley… Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn vs Yoshihiro Tajiri & Mikey Whipwreck vs Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamond (ECW Tag Team Title Tournament Final - Three-Way Dance)
It's a card of improbable events: RVD makes a match against former WCW Worldwide fodder Scotty Anton the most talked-about thing on the show (debuting his Van Terminator on PPV), Rhino carries a very 'off-season' Sandman to his best match in ages, and the gentlemanly Jerry Lynn does some surprisingly nasty (and frankly unhygienic) stuff with Steve Corino's blood. I'll say no more. Kid Kash, Danny Doring & Roadkill vs CW Anderson Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger… Jerry Lynn vs Steve Corino… Chris Chetti & Nova vs The Baldies… Little Guido vs Psicosis vs Yoshihiro Tajiri (three-way dance)… Rhino vs The Sandman (ECW TV Title Match)… Rob Van Dam vs Scotty Anton… Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer (ECW World Title Stairway to Hell Match)
In yet another corking match, Jerry Lynn finally gets a clean win over the returning Rob Van Dam. Meanwhile, chair shots in the opening match destroy more brain cells than you'd expect the participants to have in the first place. Masato Tanaka vs Balls Mahoney… Little Guido vs Simon Diamond vs Mikey Whipwreck (three-way dance)… Kid Kash vs CW Anderson… Chris Chetti & Nova vs The Baldies vs Danny Doring & Road Kill (three-way dance)… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Steve Corino… Rhino vs The Sandman (ECW TV Title Match)… Jerry Lynn vs Rob Van Dam… Justin Credible vs Lance Storm (ECW World Title Match)
Rob Van Dam's 23-month TV title reign came to a 'premature end' when he did the job to a broken leg. The resulting tournament allowed Super Crazy to become the first luchadore in the main event of a US PPV (hurrah!). Gedo, Jado and Kintaro Kanemura (from FMW) and Dusty Rhodes (from another planet) made Living Dangerously an even more cosmopolitan affair. Dusty Rhodes vs Steve Corino (Texas Bull-Rope Match)… The New Dangerous Alliance vs Danny Doring & Roadkill... Mike Awesome vs Kid Kash (ECW World Title Match)… Nova & Chris Chetti vs Gedo & Jado… Super Crazy vs Little Guido (ECW TV Title Tournament Semi-final - 'Italian Death Match')… Balls Mahoney vs Kintaro Kanemura… New Jack & Balls Mahoney vs The Baldies (streetfight)… The Impact Players vs Mike Awesome & Raven vs Masato Tanaka & Tommy Dreamer (ECW Tag Team Title Three-Way Dance)… Super Crazy vs Rhino (ECW TV Title Tournament Final)
Features the last Sabu-Rob Van Dam match promoted by ECW, and a train wreck of a main event. CW Anderson vs Mikey Whipwreck… Simon Diamond, Danny Doring & Roadkill vs Nova, Kid Cash & Jazz… Yoshihiro Tajiri & Super Crazy vs Little Guido & Jerry Lynn… Angel vs New Jack… Rob Van Dam vs Sabu (ECW TV Title Match)… Lance Storm & Justin Credible vs Raven & Tommy Dreamer (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Mike Awesome vs Spike Dudley (ECW World Title Match)
WWF employee Taz makes his last appearance on ECW PPV, facing RVD for the TV title. It isn't good, which makes it the proverbial sore thumb on an otherwise rocking card. Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka, still hellbent on killing each other, provide the match (and bumps) of the night. Spike Dudley vs Simon Diamond… Little Guido vs Nova… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Jerry Lynn vs Super Crazy (three-way dance)… The Baldies vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney… Chris Candido vs Sabu… Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka (ECW World Title Match)… Rob Van Dam vs Taz (ECW TV Title Match)… Lance Storm & Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer & Raven
One ECW icon departs (Taz, en route to Stamford) as another returns (Raven, hightailing it out of Atlanta) on ECW's biggest, best card of 1999. Lance Storm vs Jerry Lynn… Simon Diamond & Danny De Vito vs Nova & Chris Chetti… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy vs Little Guido (three-way dance)... Justin Credible vs Sabu… Taz vs Masato Tanaka vs Mike Awesome (ECW World Title Three-Way Dance)… Tommy Dreamer & Raven vs Steve Corino & Jack Victory (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Rob Van Dam vs Balls Mahoney (ECW TV Title Match)
After three consecutive thumbs-up PPV's, ECW was on its biggest roll since 1996. Heatwave lived up to its title with a frightening fire spot in the tag title match, and a sizzling main event. Just a pity about those inter-gender matches. Nova & Chris Chetti vs Danny Doring & Roadkill… Jazz vs Jason… Little Guido vs Super Crazy… The Dudleys vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Tommy Dreamer & Francine vs Steve Corino… Taz vs Yoshihiro Tajiri (ECW World Title Match)… Rob Van Dam & Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible & Lance Storm
Despite the throwaway booking of the ECW World champion (in two matches he couldn't conceivably lose), this was a rivetting card. Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn was my favourite North American match in 1999, and looking back, my opinion hasn't shifted an inch. Taz vs Chris Candido (ECW World Title Match)… The Dudleys vs Spike Dudley & Balls Mahoney (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Super Crazy vs Taka Michinoku… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Little Guido… Lance Storm vs Tommy Dreamer... Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn (ECW TV Title Match)… Taz vs Buh Buh Ray Dudley (ECW World Title Match)
This one has something of everything: three top-notch lucha encounters, the last worthwhile Shane Douglas match, Lance Storm denying that he's 'on the juice' (Sunny Delight sales immediately plummeted), Too Cold Scorpio's third 'surprise' comeback in 18 months, and a War Games match that includes the ingredient missing from WCW's efforts at the time: blood. By the bucketful. Jerry Lynn vs Yoshihiro Tajiri… Lance Storm/Tommy Dreamer drug test angle… 'Rugged' Rod Price vs Super Nova… El Mosco del la Merced vs Super Crazy… Papi Chulo vs Taka Michinoku… Rob Van Dam vs Too Cold Scorpio (ECW TV Title Match)… Taz vs Chris Candido (ECW World Title Match)… Shane Douglas vs Justin Credible… Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & New Jack vs The Dudleys & Mr. Mustafa (War Games)
Despite stiff competition from all sides, ECW was producing the best pay-per-views in the US throughout early 1999, and Living Dangerously was no exception. Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn, on the other hand, was quite exceptional. Many of the exchanges in that match are every bit as breathtaking now as they were in 1999. Super Crazy vs Yoshihiro Tajiri… Balls Mahoney vs Steve Corino… Little Guido vs Antifaz del Norte… Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn (ECW TV Title Match)… New Jack vs Mr. Mustafa… Shane Douglas & Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible & Lance Storm… Taz vs Sabu (ECW World Title Match)
This tape has more angles than a geometry set: the formation of the Impact Players, the return of the Gangstas, the introduction of Lance Storm's 'new' ladything, and yet more Sid. If that isn't your hot beverage, the wrestling isn't bad, with the very best match of the Tajiri-Crazy feud, a great Sabu carry job, and an early RVD-Jerry Lynn main event. Little Guido vs Chris Chetti… Danny Doring & Roadkill vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney… Shane Douglas angle (formation of the Impact Players)… Super Crazy vs Yoshihiro Tajiri… Skull Von Krush vs Sabu (FTW Title Match)… The Gangstas returns to ECW… Lance Storm introduces Beulah McGullicutty Mk II… Steve Corino vs John Kronus (Sid!)… Jerry Lynn vs Rob Van Dam (ECW Television Title Match)
Danny Doring & Roadkill vs Spike Dudley (handicap match)… Chris Chetti vs Steve Corino… Antifaz del Norte vs Little Guido… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy… Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible vs Lance Storm… Rob Van Dam & Sabu vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Shane Douglas vs Taz (ECW World Title Match)… Sid vs Skull Von Crush… The Dudley clan parody the Public Enemy, who return to ECW and clean house
Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten vs The FBI vs Danny Doring & Roadkill… Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy… John Kronus vs Sid… The Dudleys vs New Jack & Spike Dudley… Rob Van Dam vs Lance Storm (ECW TV Title Match)… Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible (Stairway to Hell Match)… Shane Douglas vs Taz (ECW World Title Match)
The Blue Meanie & Super Nova vs Roadkill & Danny Doring… Tommy Rogers vs Tracey Smothers… Spike Dudley vs Mabel… Lance Storm vs Jerry Lynn… Masato Tanaka & Balls Mahoney vs The Dudleys (ECW World Tag Team Title Match)… Rob Van Dam, Sabu & Taz vs Shane Douglas, Chris Candido & Bam Bam Bigelow
The pendulum of quality wouldn't stop swinging for ECW PPV's: after the Wrestlepalooza debacle, Heatwave turned out to be the most rewarding card of 1998. The highlight is Mike Awesome's all-out war with Masato Tanaka, but the entire event is a joy to watch. Justin Credible vs Jerry Lynn… Chris Candido vs Lance Storm… Masato Tanaka vs Mike Awesome… Sabu & Rob Van Dam vs Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Taz vs Bam Bam Bigelow (FTW Title Match)… The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer & Spike Dudley vs The Dudleys (streetfight)
Second Stairway to Hell; tag partners vs tag partners semi-final
Justin Credible vs Jerry Lynn (best of three falls match)… Jamie Dundee vs Chris Chetti… Mikey Whipwreck vs Mike Lozansky… Danny Doring vs John Kronus… The FBI vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Al Snow… Chris Candido & Sabu vs Lance Storm & Rob Van Dam… Buh Buh Ray, D-Von & Big Dick Dudley vs The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer & Spike Dudley (Stairway to Hell Match)
If you've got a crap detector at home, it will have a lot to say about this. Sabu summed it up quite well when he threw up in the middle of his 30-minute draw with Rob Van Dam. Aside from a great Credible-Whipwreck match, this wasn't a patch on Living Dangerously. The Blue Meanie & Super Nova vs The FBI… Justin Credible vs Mikey Whipwreck…. Chris Candido & Lance Storm vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney (ECW Tag Team Title Change)… Bam Bam Bigelow vs New Jack… Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman vs The Dudleys… Rob Van Dam vs Sabu (TV Title Match)… Shane Douglas vs Al Snow (ECW World Title Match)
Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney vs Danny Doring & Roadkill… The FBI vs The Sandman & Too Cold Scorpio… Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible… Shane Douglas, Chris Candido & Bam Bam Bigelow vs Jerry Lynn, Lance Storm & Chris Chetti… Al Snow vs John Kronus… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Pablo Marquez… Chris Candido vs Doug Furnas… Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley vs New Jack & Spike Dudley vs Sabu & Rob Van Dam
Improving on Hardcore Heaven and the mess that was November to Remember, ECW's fourth PPV delivered all the balcony dives, fine matches and foam heads you'd expect for $25. Jerry Lynn & Chris Chetti vs The FBI… Masato Tanaka vs Doug Furnas… Rob Van Dam vs Too Cold Scorpio… Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible… New Jack & Spike Dudley vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney vs The Dudleys… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Taz (ECW TV Title Change)… Sabu vs The Sandman… Shane Douglas & Chris Candido vs Al Snow & Lance Storm (tag champs face each other)
Danny Doring vs Jerry Lynn… Tracey Smothers vs Al Snow… Doug Furnas vs Chris Chetti… Lance Storm vs Chris Candido… Taz vs Brakus (TV Title Match)… Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer (first blood match)… Buh Buh Ray, D-Von & Big Dick Dudley vs Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & The Sandman vs New Jack, Spike Dudley & John Kronus… Shane Douglas & Bam Bam Bigelow vs Sabu & Rob Van Dam
One of ECW's best latterday commercial tapes. The main event is a brutal, barbed wire-abusing bloodbath, in which the Sandman rediscovers his old form. Michinoku Pro dispatches its troops to help fill out the undercard. The FBI vs Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & Tommy Dreamer… Jerry Lynn vs Chris Candido… Gran Naniwa vs Gran Hamada… Al Snow vs Roadkill… The Great Sasuke vs Justin Credible… Rob Van Dam vs Bam Bam Bigelow… Taz vs Too Cold Scorpio (ECW TV Title Match)… Buh-Buh Ray, D-Von and Big Dick Dudley vs New Jack, John Kronus & Spike Dudley… Sabu vs The Sandman (Stairway To Hell Match)
With the Gangstas and the Eliminators splitting up within weeks of each other, the newly formed Gangstanators get a volcanic crowd reaction in the main event. Also: Bill Alfonso does a monstrous blade job in the mixed tag team match (for a Beulah cookie sheet shot, no less), and the excellent Jerry Lynn-Justin Credible feud gets underway. The FBI vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney… Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible… Chris Candido vs Lance Storm… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Spike Dudley… Shane Douglas vs Phil Lafon… The Sandman vs Sabu… Rob Van Dam & Bill Alfonso vs Tommy Dreamer & Beulah… The Dudleys vs New Jack & John Kronus (ECW Tag Team Title Change)
ECW's second PPV didn't quite match the trail-blazing success of its first. The rematch of the legendary 60-minute draw from The Night the Line Was Crossed was a strong effort, sabotaged by unrealistic expectations of three very banged up wrestlers. The undercard was better received, featuring two matches pitting ECW against a Jerry Lawler-led USWA 'invasion'. Taz vs Chris Candido (TV Title Match)… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Spike Dudley… Rob Van Dam vs Al Snow… Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley vs PG-13 (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Tommy Dreamer vs Jerry Lawler… Sabu vs Terry Funk vs Shane Douglas (ECW World Title Three-Way Dance)
On the eve of its second PPV, this was the increasingly mainstream ECW drawing a sticky red line between itself and the WWF/WCW. Sabu vs Terry Funk is, arguably, the most violent match ever seen on US soil. Absolutely amazing. Little Guido vs Pablo Marquez… Louie Spicolli vs Mikey Whipwreck… Bam Bam Bigelow vs Spike Dudley… Chris Candido vs Chris Chetti… Shane Douglas vs Lance Storm… Taz vs Al Snow (ECW TV Title Match)… Buh Buh Ray, D-Von & Big Dick Dudley vs Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & Hack Myers… Tommy Dreamer vs Rob Van Dam… Sabu vs Terry Funk (ECW World Title Change - No Rope Barbed Wire Match)
The FBI vs The Pitbulls… Balls Mahoney vs Wild Bill… Taz vs Spike Dudley… Shane Douglas vs Chris Chetti (ECW TV Title Match)… Raven & Stevie Richards vs Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer… The Eliminators vs The Dudleys vs The Gangstas… Louie Spicolli vs Tommy Dreamer… Raven vs Stevie Richards vs Terry Funk vs The Sandman (ECW World Title Four-Way Dance)
ECW's first pay-per-view had to justify an entire year of hype, and it didn't disappoint. Two classic matches (the MPW six-man tag, the three-way dance) and a heartwarming finale made up for the one poor match (Douglas vs Pitbull 2) and a perceived letdown (Sabu vs Taz, which only disappointed those who really expected the greatest match ever). A great PPV by anyone's standards. The Eliminators vs Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley (ECW World Tag Team Title Change)… Rob Van Dam vs Lance Storm… The Great Sasuke, Gran Hamada & Masato Yakushiji vs Dick Togo, Taka Michinoku & Terry Boy… Shane Douglas vs Pitbull 2 (ECW TV Title Match)… Taz vs Sabu (their first ever singles match)… Stevie Richards vs The Sandman vs Terry Funk (#1 contenders three-way dance)… Raven vs Terry Funk (ECW World Title Change)
Two terrific matches here: Chris Jericho vs Too Cold Scorpio (Jericho's last appearance in ECW), and the Sabu vs RVD stretcher match. Plus: Stevie Richards and the Blue Meanie debut their KISS alter-egos. Mikey Whipwreck vs Devon Storm… Louie Spicolli vs Johnny Smith… Axl Rotten vs D-Von Dudley… The Sandman vs Raven & Stevie Richards… Chris Jericho vs Too Cold Scorpio… Pitbull 2 vs Shane Douglas (ECW TV Title Match)… Taz & Brian Lee vs Tommy Dreamer & Steve Williams… The Gangstas vs The Eliminators vs Bruiser Brothers vs Samoan Gangsta Party (ECW Tag Team Title Four-Way Dance)… Sabu vs Rob Van Dam (stretcher match)
The four-way dance here - an engrossing synthesis of wrestling, brawling, high-flying and angle-mongering - is one of the best four-ways any promotion has ever put together. All of the summer '96 matches between Jericho, Scorp, Douglas and Pitbull are worth checking out, but this is the ideal starting point. The Gangstas vs Samoan Gangsta Party… Mikey Whipwreck vs Paul 'The Giant' Lauria… The Eliminators vs Sabu & Mikey Whipwreck… The Dudleys vs The FBI… Tarzan Goto vs Axl Rotten… 911 returns to ECW… Chris Jericho vs Shane Douglas vs Too Cold Scorpio vs Pitbull 2 (ECW TV Title Four-Way Dance)… Louie Spicolli vs El Puerto Ricano… Sabu vs Louie Spicolli… Raven & Stevie Richards & Brian Lee vs Terry Gordy & Tommy Dreamer & Sandman (Rage in the Cage Match)
The highlight here is the 'respect' match between Sabu and RVD, a blistering spotfest that galvanised the wildest feud of 1996. With the exception of an unusually crappy three-way dance, this is a cracking card. Pablo Marquez vs Damian (Sabu runs in and flattens everyone)… The Dudleys vs Devon Storm & Damien Kane… The FBI vs Axl Rotten & Hack Myers… Raven vs The Sandman vs Pitbull 2 (ECW World Title Three-Way Dance)… Chris Jericho vs Mikey Whipwreck… Shane Douglas vs Too Cold Scorpio (ECW TV Title Match)… Rob Van Dam vs Sabu… The Gangstas & Tommy Dreamer vs Brian Lee & The Eliminators
Long before his classic matches with Jerry Lynn, and an age away from his life under the thumb of Vince McMahon, Rob Van Dam became a star thanks to his jaw-dropping feud with Sabu. HCS '96 includes one of their first matches in ECW, featuring some highspots that were (like all Sabu matches of the period) considerably ahead of their time. Gangstas interview... El Puerto Ricano vs Super Nova… The Pitbulls vs Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley… Taz vs Devon Storm… Axl Rotten vs Little Guido… Bruise Brothers vs Too Cold Scorpio & The Sandman… Brian Lee vs Tommy Dreamer… Sabu vs Rob Van Dam… Raven vs Shane Douglas
One of the must-see tapes of 1996, including Cactus Jack's last night in ECW, Brian Pillman causing absolute chaos, and not one, but two classic Misterio-Guerrera matches. First five matches are from the previous night in New York. Brian Pillman-Shane Douglas altercation… Cactus Jack vs Chris Jericho… Taz vs Mikey Whipwreck… The Dudleys vs The Head Hunters vs The Gangstas… Rey Misterio Jr. vs Juventud Guerrera (best of three falls)… Raven vs The Sandman… JT Smith vs Axl Rotten… The Bad Crew vs Devon Storm & El Puerto Ricano… Pillman-Douglas, episode two… The Eliminators vs Buh Buh Ray Dudley & Hack Myers… Chris Jericho vs Taz… Rey Misterio Jr. vs Juventud Guerrera (best of three falls)… Cactus Jack vs Mikey Whipwreck (Cactus' last match in ECW - he gets the best sendoff ever)… Bruise Brothers vs The Pitbulls… Sabu vs Big Titan… Raven vs Shane Douglas… The Gangstas vs The Sandman & Too Cold Scorpio vs The Head Hunters (ECW Tag Team Title Three-Way Dance)
Stevie Richards/Missy Hyatt angle… Koji Nakagawa vs Taz… JT Smith vs Hack Myers… Too Cold Scorpio vs Mikey Whipwreck (ECW TV & Tag Team Titles Match)… The Pitbulls vs The Eliminators… Tommy Dreamer vs Stevie Richards… Tommy Dreamer vs Raven… El Puerto Ricano vs Bruiser Mastino (911 runs in)… Buh Buh Ray Dudley vs The Blue Meanie… The Sandman vs Raven (ECW World Title Match)… Public Enemy vs The Gangstas… Sabu vs Cactus Jack
ECW's annual supercard, highlighted by the surprise comeback of Sabu, Steve Austin's last match before signing with the WWF (Austin was a riot in ECW), a cracking death match between Psicosis and Rey Misterio Jr. and a main event that rocked the ECW Arena. Buh Buh Ray Dudley vs Tony Stetson & Don E. Allen… Konnan vs Jason… Stevie Richards vs El Puerto Ricano… The Eliminators vs The Pitbulls… Rey Misterio Jr. vs Psicosis (Mexican Death Match)… Public Enemy vs The Sandman & Too Cold Scorpio (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… Bill Alfonso vs Todd Gordon… Mikey Whipwreck vs Steve Austin (ECW World Title Match)… Sabu vs Hack Myers… Cactus Jack & Raven vs Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer
This card is rightly famous for an all-time classic battle between Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero, and a typically wild Cactus Jaclk/Terry Funk main event - but for me the highlight remains Shane Douglas' last match before his disastrous run in the WWF. Douglas was a priceless orator, and milked the situation for all its worth. The fact that he didn't have a similar aptitude for fortune-telling only adds to the fun. Also includes an appearance by Michinoku Pro jester-wrestler Yone Genjin. Mikey Whipwreck vs Stevie Richards… Yone Genjin vs Tony Stetson… Ian Rotten vs Axl Rotten (death match)… Raven vs Tommy Dreamer… Eddy Guerrero vs Dean Malenko (ECW TV Title Match)… The Sandman vs Shane Douglas (ECW World Title Match)… Public Enemy vs The Pitbulls (ECW Tag Team Title Match)… 911 vs Ron Simmons… Cactus Jack vs Terry Funk
This card was intended to be famous for the world's first tag team three-way dance. Instead, it's infamous as the card where Sabu no-showed, having taken a better-paid booking in Japan at zero notice. The entire event was drowned in chants of 'Fuck Sabu', Paul Heyman publicly fired the absconder, and Rick Steiner was drafted in as a not-entirely-appropriate substitute. Total chaos, but the Too Cold Scorpio-Eddie Guerrero match remains a classic, and the main event is a success despite the last-minute changes The Pitbulls vs Tony Stetson & Johnny Hotbody… Raven vs Tommy Dreamer… Ron Simmons vs Mikey Whipwreck… Too Cold Scorpio vs Eddie Guerrero (ECW TV Title Match)… Ian Rotten vs Axl Rotten (hair vs hair match)… Hack Myers vs Dino Sendoff… The Sandman vs Shane Douglas (ECW World Title Match)… Public Enemy vs Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko vs Tazmaniac & Rick Steiner (ECW Tag Team Title Three-Way Dance)
New version of the card that transformed a seedy Pennsylvania independent into the talk of the wrestling industry. The classic, hour-long main event and furniture-wrecking undercard made this the only non-WWF/E event to ever win Card of the Year in the Power Slam Reader Awards. Mr. Hughes vs Sal Belommo… The Sandman & Tommy Cairo vs Pitbull 1 & Rockin' Rebel (dog collar match)… Public Enemy vs Bruise Brothers (falls count anywhere match)… Jimmy Snuka vs Tommy Dreamer… Tazmaniac & Kevin Sullivan vs The Sheik & Pat Tanaka… JT Smith vs Mike Awesome… Sabu vs Terry Funk vs Shane Douglas (ECW World Title Three-Way Dance - 60-minute draw)
